The Perfect Grey Coat.

So we’re here to talk about how my search for the perfect grey coat is over.

I’ll start with a disclaimer: I’ve got lots of coats. Lots. And despite having been on the hunt for a grey number for what you might describe as A. Very. Long. Time. it was playing hard to get – I felt like my wardrobe (and life) would be infinitely better once I’d found the perfect shade of grey.

A good coat matters, like really.

Everyone needs a striking coat.

A coat that means business is essential because during the winter months (or let’s face it – half the bloody year if you live in the UK!) your coat is often the first thing people see you in – and first impressions count.

Think of a good coat as an outfit anchor. You want your anchor to be strong, reliable, and stylish too.

Get the coat right, and everything else falls into place.

The (grey coat) criteria

As with most things, the more sustained the search, the more unwieldy the wish-list becomes. It had got to the stage where I was like one of those really annoying couples on Location, Location, Location who claim (at the beginning of the episode) that their requirements aren’t remotely unreasonable, before proceeding to produce a three-page in-depth list – prompting the oh-so-familiar eye-rolls and tutting from Kirsty and Phil.

I’ve spent hours trawling through Pinterest and Instagram, lusting over minimalist beauties, chicly layering grey on grey.

I found good contenders in the likes of Cos, Whistles, & Other stories, but they were just a little bit out of my price range.

50 shades of perfect

And so it was (typically) when I’d almost given up the (grey coat) ghost, that I stumbled upon this one.

I’d describe it as light grey, oversized and very transitional – you can layer it up for extra warmth should you need it – and shoulder-robe on nights out, or when the sun comes out.

I particularly like the fact that it’s collarless, with just one button – which adds to the laid-back vibe I’d been hankering for.

These photos were shot on quite a cold day, and so although the weather played a part on the layering front (it is Manchester after all) I like the way the coat can take it – still the centrepiece and able to hold its own.

I’m pleased to report it has settled in very nicely!
